Help a young person build confidence through fun activities and friendship. Flexible volunteering with full training, support and expenses.

Become a Volunteer Befriender with Befriends Dundee and help make a lasting difference in the life of a young person.

Many young people experience loneliness, isolation or a lack of positive adult relationships. As a befriender, you'll spend a couple of hours each week with one young person, building a trusted friendship through fun, everyday activities that they both enjoy.

You might:

  • Go for a walk or visit a local park
  • Play tennis, badminton or another activity
  • Visit a café
  • Try arts and crafts
  • Go bowling or to the cinema
  • Explore museums, libraries or local attractions
  • Simply spend time chatting and getting to know each other

Every match is based on shared interests, personalities and availability.

You don't need any previous experience. We'll provide comprehensive training, ongoing support and regular check-ins throughout your volunteering journey.

What's involved?

  • Around 2 hours each week or fortnight
  • Flexible volunteering to fit around work, study or family life
  • Initial training before you're matched
  • Monthly online activity reports
  • Regular support from our friendly team

What we provide

  • Full induction and training
  • Ongoing supervision and support
  • Reimbursement of travel and agreed activity expenses
  • Access to resources and activity ideas
  • Opportunities to meet other volunteers
  • The chance to make a real difference to a young person's confidence, wellbeing and future

If you're friendly, reliable and enjoy spending time with young people, we'd love to hear from you.
