Do you feel like you spend more time scrolling social media than actually socialising? 🖥️📱😩🥀

Do you want to spend more time having fun offline, but you’re not sure where to start? 😖😵‍💫

Do you wish it was easier to get out and about? 🚶🚴🏾🚌🚂

Do you want to go exploring, get creative and increase your confidence? 🏞️🎨💜

Then you’ll want to sign up for IRL!

Starting on the 4th August and running every Tuesday until 22nd September!

Following on from the success of our last campaign, Scroll Down, we’re now launching IRL, a campaign all about accessing and building community offline! In Scroll Down, we explored the impact of social media on our mental health, good and bad. Now with IRL, we’re answering the question: if we want to spend less time on social media, where else can we find fun and connection?

Every week we’ll meet at the Feeling Strong hub and go on a new adventure! From learning more about the museums, libraries and other community spaces on our doorstep; to practising bike skills; to taking public transport out to explore green and urban spaces beyond Dundee; we’ll build up our ability to engage with the world and each other, offline and IRL! We’ll also spend time getting creative, using activities like journaling, scrapbooking and clay sculpting to reflect on our adventures. Along the way we’ll develop our understanding of the links between offline community and youth mental health, the barriers that can make it difficult for young people to access community offline and how we can reduce those barriers.

Lunch will be provided and the cost of transport for outings involving public transport will be covered by us. Plus all participating young people and volunteers will receive a one-year railcard to support you to keep exploring after the project ends!

This project is great for anyone interested in psychology, sociology or youth work! Remember that opportunities like this are great for CVs!

Who? 👥 -  16 - 26 year old

When? 📆 - Starting 4th August and continuing every Tuesday until 22nd September!

Time?⏰ - 12pm - 5pm (this is a long session, but it’s to allow time for travelling and breaks!)

Where?📍 - Block 5, 2 Seabraes Lane, DD1 4NX (we will meet at the Hub each week and travel from there to each outing).

What is the volunteer role?

The volunteers are there to set up, facilitate and help with the smooth running of the event, including helping to keep our young people safe and together when out and about. You’ll be joining in the discussions, getting involved in activities and providing support to the young people. You’ll also be there to represent Feeling Strong and tell everyone about what we do and why it matters!
